How to Choose eCommerce Products Quickly

  1. Look at popular Facebook ad posts.
  2. Vertical expansion of product selection.
  3. Horizontal expansion of product selection.
  4. Researching Shopify competitor websites.

Facebook Ad Posts

Install the Commerce Inspector plugin on your Google Chrome browser. Open any Shopify site and click on the plugin to display the following information:

  • Trends: This section shows popular Facebook ads and products.
  • Site: Information about the current Shopify site, including build and update times, traffic, best-selling products, and social media links.
  • Products: Best sellers, new models, and the number of products in each category.
  • Ads: Ads currently running on Facebook.
  • Apps: Apps installed on the website.

Note that this plugin can only view the traffic and product information of Shopify websites, not other types of sites.

To view popular posts, check the Trends section on the plugin. You can see the number of days the post has been published, the number of likes and comments, etc. Alternatively, you can go directly to the Commerce Inspector website at Commerce Inspector Trends.

What can we do with Commerce Inspector?

  • View Trending Posts: Select recent dates (7 days/today/this week/last week/this month/last month). Ads with newer dates have a better chance of selling.
  • Select Ads with Recent Dates and High Engagement: Ads with recent dates and high numbers of comments and likes indicate that the ad and product are attracting user interest.
  • Analyze Comments: Click to view the comment section of the video. Look for posts or ads with high positive comments and strong purchase intent. Not all popular posts are hot products, so be cautious.
  • Organize and Filter Products: Check the profit margins of potential products. Most of these ads are for dropshipping products, and you can find the source from platforms like Ssangtong.
  • Edit the Video and Copy: Use the tool to download the video, remove the watermark, and edit it if necessary. Test the original material and new material to see what performs better.

Vertical Expansion of Product Selection

If the above selection skills are basic, let's dig deeper into what else can be done. Vertical expansion involves enhancing the product's competitiveness.

  • Improve Product Functionality: Can the product be enhanced with additional features?
  • Enhance Advertising Material: Can the advertising material be made more attractive?

Think about it: if an ad and product have been verified to be liked by users, it means they are marketable. If you can improve on this basis, you can test adding new features or enhancing the selling points in the material.

Where to Find Enhanced Products?

  • Speed Seller: Search for the product and check for similar products.
  • Recommended Area: Click on the same product and scroll to the bottom of the detail page to find the "More To Love" section. These products are usually related and have good sales.

Horizontal Expansion of Product Selection

After discussing vertical expansion, what else can we do? Many successful stores have strong teams constantly selecting products and creating advertising material. We can draw inspiration from their selections.

How to Horizontally Expand the Selection?

  • Shopify Seller Plugin: Use the Commerce Inspector plugin to view the best-selling items on a competitor's site.
  • Facebook Ads Database: Check the Facebook Ads Library to see what ads are being placed. Although you can't see specific comments and content, you can roughly identify profitable products.
  • Google Search: Use Google to view the site's included pages. For example, use site:example.com to search for product pages in Google.

Researching Shopify Competitor Websites

Many Shopify sellers use pop-up ads and advertising to drive traffic. Researching these sites involves studying their pages and products.

Main Research Content:

  • Attract Users: Product page content description should address user pain points and clearly describe the product's use and benefits.
  • Improve User Trust: Study the trust tags and terms and conditions descriptions on rival sites. Payment security guarantees and shipping and return instructions are essential.
  • Promote Purchases: Ensure there are enough reviews. Even if a site is part of a group, each product page should have sincere reviews.

Summary

There are many ways to select products, and this article focuses on using tools to choose products from a different perspective. The key is to test and adjust, forming your own selection sensitivity and data accumulation. Research is not just about imitation; it's about finding your own category and gradually building a long-lasting brand.
